Gus S Wortham Memorial Fountain In Houston, Texas

Gus S Wortham Memorial Fountain – Mabry Campbell

The Gus S. Wortham Memorial Fountain was designed by local architect, William Cannady and donated to the City of Houston by the Wortham Foundation and American General Insurance. The fountain, also affectionately called “the dandelion fountain” is located in the 2900 block of Allen Parkway. It is comprised of a central bronze shaft with multiple bronze sprinkler pipes radiating out of a central hub. The pipes are equal in length giving the top portion of the fountain a spherical shape, which is reinforced by the surface of the sphere created by the spaying water. The fountain was recently renovated in 2015 and is in fantastic condition.

  1. Hello, Mabry! I don’t come around as much as I’d like, but when I do….I feel a little bit home again. Our daughter goes to school in L.A. and I find myself making every excuse in the book to visit. I love life in SoCal…..even with the traffic, and other unnatural wonders. I love the dandelion fountain and wonder if it would look as lovely in person as it does in you photograph. Hello, and take care!!! 🙂
